Deepak Paramashivan

Deepak Paramashivan is a noted scientist, oriental musician, musicologist and a theater personality, whose performance career spans three decades. He took to the stage at the age of eight and has since performed numerous Sarangi, Veena and vocal concerts globally.

He is one of the leading authorities on Sarangi and Mysore style of Veena in North America. He is currently pursuing his second PhD at the University of Alberta under Dr. Regula Qureshi and Dr. Michael Frishkopf.

Theater

He forayed into the world of theater at a tender age of eight, as the youngest artist in the musical ballet 'Kunti-Karna Samvada'. This production under the aegis of Madras Music Academy fetched him laurels by the leading national newspaper..

Today, he is a household name in South Indian theater and has acted in numerous classical plays, the noteworthy among which are 'Subhadra Parinaya', 'Bheeshma Pratignye', 'Rajasooya Yaaga' and 'Sadarame'. He played the protagonist in 'Sudhanva Moksha', a dance-drama set in the ancient folk art form of Yakshagana.

He enjoys a marked presence in the Indian film industry and he has lent his Sarangi, Veena and vocal skills to numerous Indian movies and has featured in the critically acclaimed Indian movie, 'Rangitaranga'. 

On the western arena, he played the roles of Newman Noggs and Mobbs in Charles Dickens' 'Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby' directed by the renowned actor, director and radio/television producer, Prof David Barnet, after receiving formal training in acting, drama production and performance, Shakespeare scenes and Inter-generational theater under him. He has learnt physical comedy (Slapstick, Solo & Dual Clowning, Bouffon) from the renowned comedian Michael Kennard.
